What is Les Misérables about?

Set in France during the 1800s, Les Mis tells the story of prisoner Jean Valjean who is hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking his parole.

The story also centres around Fantine, a young woman forced into prostitution to pay her debts, and her daughter Cosette.

You'll probably recognise some of the most famous songs from Les Misérables, including On My Own, I Dreamed a Dream and Bring Him Home.

The musical is based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo.
